At the recent IACPM Annual Spring Conference in Berlin, Adrian Docherty, head of Bank Advisory at BNP Paribas, presented a talk entitled, “The Capital Odyssey: Contemporary Perspectives on Bank Risk and Capital Management”.
Using Homer’s Odyssey as a metaphor, Mr. Docherty makes the case that it has never been more crucial for risk and credit portfolio managers to understand the rapidly evolving regulations and accounting standards. He provided topical insights on developments on Basel capital and liquidity standards (future of Basel IV) and expected credit loss (IFRS 9/CECL). He also assesses the current state of the banking system versus future requirements for capital liquidity and funding. Finally, he offered perspectives for the practical implications for strategy—particularly emerging risks and potential unintended consequences for credit portfolios.
