The IACPM Global SRT Insurer Survey highlights
credit risk insurers supporting a broad range of
real-economy lending

(Re)insurers, through their credit insurance underwriting functions, are increasingly suppoting real economy finance by providing protection on tranches of banks’ SRT securitisations aiming at Significant Risk Transfer.

The IACPM recently conducted its annual Global SRT Insurer Survey which covers protections provided by insurers on banks’ SRT transactions between 2019 and 2025. Survey results highlight trends in the volume, underlying assets, and risk profile of insurance-based protection for banks’ on-balance-sheet securitisations.

In 2025, the number of unfunded protections continued to increase, from 78 to 96, covering 69 securitizations originated by banks (vs 53 in 2024). After syndication, participating insurers protected approximately €4.7 billion SRT tranches in 2025, compared with €2.7 billion in 2024, demonstrating that their appetite to grow, while varying by asset class, remains unchanged.
